A 1979 vintage expression of Port Ellen bottled in 2013 at 46% Abv by Gordon & Macphail as part of their Rare Old series. A distillery name that is synonymous with quality, Port Ellen sadly closed its doors in 1983 and was a victim of the 1980s Scotch whisky crisis. As casks have dwindled, the demand for Port Ellen has been huge with owner Diageo still providing well aged bottlings. Plans to revive the distillery have begun and new stills and buildings are gradually being installed at the old site.
