Glenlochy 1980 26 Year Old Single Cask 2452 Rarest Of The Rare // Duncan Taylor

An exceptionally rare single cask expression of the closed distillery Glenlochy. Distilled in 1980, this cask was matured for 24 years and bottled at 61.2% Abv by Duncan Taylor under their 'Rarest Of The Rare' label. Glenlochy was situated in Fort William, just a short walk from the still present Ben Nevis distillery. The parent company of Glenlochy was purchased by DCL (now Diageo) in 1953 and was sadly one of the distilleries closed by DCL in 1983 amid the Scotch whisky industry downturn. In 1992 the site was redeveloped into a hotel & leisure complex but the maltings and kilns have been preserved, now being converted to flats. Glenlochy produced a waxy, thick style of Highland malt whisky much in the veing of Ben Nevis and Clynelish and was a particular favourite amongst blenders in the 1970s/80s due to the heavy body the spirit provided.
